Johnny Horton Tribute Day

Tillman Franks played a big part in the Johnny Hohrton Tribute Day held at Rebel State Historic Site near Marthaville, La. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000. In spite of unseasonably cool weather, a nice crowd came out for the event, which featured Claude King, Merle Kilgore, Tommy and Debbie Horton, Tugboat Jerry, The Plainsmen Quartet and many others.

Tillman Franks is shown on stage with his son Tillman Ben Franks Jr., who headed the band, The Second Generation. At left is Robin Vosberry and at right is Pat Smith.

Tillman Franks is shown playing bass for the Great Claude King, at mike. Members of the band are Jay King on drums, Robin Vosberry and Bud Christian.
Tommy Horton, shown at mike, and his wife, Debbie, performed a wonderful tribute to Johnny Horton. They asked Tillman to play bass for them and they were delighted when he accepted.
